If you live in the south part of Charlotte you are less likely to be arrested for possession of marijuana

According to the NC AOC dataset we used to plot the map below (February 2015 – August 2015), you are more likely to be arrested for possession of marijuana in the Charlotte area if you live north of 74 (Independence Blvd) and west of I-77.  You can clearly see this on the map below.

If you are black and live in Rocky Mount NC, you are almost 10 times as likely as a white person of being cited for marijuana possession

Take a look at the statistical data analysis below.  According to NC AOC dataset we used, which covers citations from February 2015 through August 2015, you are many times more likely to be arrested for pot posession if you are black than if you are white.  The data is pretty clear about this.  For example, if you live in Raleigh, blacks are 4.8 times as likely to be arrested than whites.  If you live in Rocky Mount, that disparity jumps to 9.4.

Stats on the NC Judicial System should be open and widely available to everyone…but they aren’t

The slide deck below is what we pitched at the NC Datapalooza contest last night.  We feel that this initiative is important because it affects all citizens. And it’s not a dumb app like AirPNP.  It’s something that actually matters and impacts a lot of people, whether they know it or not.

More information about our Open and Transparent Initiative for the NC Judicial System can be found in the slide show below.
